Current Events Update: Actions and Attitudes

Action: How did the people vote? Take a look to see why, when so few Indiana counties were blue, the state turned blue.

Attitudes: What kind of attitude did President Elect Obama take to Washington four years ago? How did it affect the election? A recent article by Bill Sammon highlights some of Obama's first meeting with President Bush.

Attitude: How will Obama's interpretation of America and its recent past influence his presidency? While Obama has been an exceedingly liberal senator, he has run his campaign as a moderate using buzzwords such as "hope" and "change." However, in his victory speech Obama seemed to some to be speaking about our nation with a negative attitude. Do we know what his real attitude is?

Mr. Henninger's opinion of Mr. Obama's victory speech (the third article) is, in my opinion, refreshing. His article provides us with an instance of someone from print media looking through Mr. Obama's rhetoric and realizing that what he is actually expressing is an unfavorable view of America.

Hey thanks for putting these issues up. That's weird how our state could go for obama when there were so many republican counties. Did you notice that the libertarian candidate affected how our state went? If McCain got his votes, our state would have gone red.

The article about GW Bush and obama's meeting 4 years ago was very interesting in how it was all from obama's recollection and no other first person witnesses to the meeting was quoted in the article. The fact that the article's writer did talk to Bush was also interesting in that it happened much later than that meeting between obama and the President. How can Bush be expected to remember the details of that meeting many years later. Bush's comment of "he doesn't know me very well" was probably the most accurate thing Bush could have said. A very one-sided article.
